It took me about 2-3 weeks to get up to acceptable speed for most things (40-50wpm), a few months until I was around where I was with qwerty (90-100ish wpm), and now 3 years after switching my speed is a bit higher than it used to be on qwerty (around 120wpm)Īs for people worrying about not being able to type on qwerty any more: In my case, my ability to type with qwerty did get worse, but it's still pretty usable (around 60-70wpm). That being said, needing to use both has made me realize just how uncomfortable (relatively) qwerty is, and just how more enjoyable the experience of typing is when most of your typing stays on the home row and you can make full use of finger rolls. I still need to use qwerty occasionally when I use one of the lab machines at work, but it's not hard to adjust to.
